Keeping our Iman Strong with Dhikr

By Candice Islaah Abd'al-Rahim

The majority of the scholars in Islam agree that iman or faith is not static; it increases with obedience to Allah's commands and decreases with disobedience. Acquiring iman, therefore, is a process. It does not penetrate one’s heart simply because one is a Muslim by birth or by conversion. Dhikr, the remembrance of Allah, goes beyond merely thinking about our Lord. Find out more about what to say, when to say it, and how we can use it to strengthen our iman.

Parenting Tip

Now that Ramadan is over, we have to work on taking those good habits that were formed and carrying them into these next days, weeks, and months ahead. There are a number of ways to keep our iman strong but they will all take a conscious effort.

Preserving our Faith in Allah

By Umm Ahmed

In today's world, where materialism and distractions are prevalent, we can easily be tempted by worldly pleasures or face doubts and uncertainties in the wake of world events, sufferings, and atrocities. Reflection on the verses of the Quran can help to maintain our faith in Allah. The Sunnah of our beloved Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, highlights some other determinants of faith that can also be attributed to the profound names of Allah. By reflecting on these determinants and incorporating them into our lives, we can become better equipped to navigate the challenges and trials that come our way and fulfill our duties as Muslims, God willing.

Inspiration

“For a true Muslim, the end of Ramadan is not the end,

but the start of a new journey leading toward the Jannah.”

The Importance of Making Friends (and Keeping Them)

By Wendy Díaz

In Islam, choosing good friends is highly emphasized, because the company we keep can have a significant impact on our behavior, actions, and beliefs. Good friends who are committed to their faith can help strengthen one's own faith and lead to positive spiritual growth. Conversely, being friends with those who have weak faith or engage in sinful behavior can open the way to negative influences and possibly even lead one astray from the path of righteousness. Muslim parents can encourage their children to choose good friends by setting a good example themselves and by teaching their children Islamic values and principles from a young age.

Islamic Guidance

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

"Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days fasting in Shawwal has done as if he has fast for life."

Teaching about the End Times from Authentic Sources

By Tayaabah Qazi

Belief in the Last Day is the fifth pillar of our faith. It is unseen and unrealized information of our faith passed on to us through the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. This is the tenet of faith that makes an accounting of personal and communal actions consequential and solidifies the truth of Heaven and Hell. Adults and children have access to LOTS of info online that is not always correct. Check out why it is important to use authentic resources to satisfy our curiosity and dispel misinformation.
