Sadaqah in Ramadan: Lessons from the Life of our Prophet

By Umm Ahmed

Developing a giving spirit is an especially important quality for parents to be teaching their children and there is no better time than during Ramadan to give in charity. It is said that when a believer gives sadaqah with a pure intention, it reaches Allah before it reaches the hands of the needy. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, provided both an example and inspiration for these efforts. Here are 10 of the virtues he taught us that are associated with giving in sadaqah.

  1. It is a cure for illness and prevention against sudden death.
  2. It relieves one in the advent of calamity and hardship (trials).
  3. It expiates the sins.
  4. It strengthens the bond with Allah.
  5. It is a source of increasing one's provision.
  6. It provides for a shade on the Day of Judgment.
  7. It is a means for having your duas accepted.
  8. It is a source of investment for the Hereafter.
  9. It is an entryway into Heaven and a shield against the Hellfire.
  10. It supports the establishment of a harmonious society.

 Parenting Tip

Here are 15 duas for Laylatul Qadr that should be included on everyone’s list!

Quranic Guidance

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard to distinguish between right and wrong. So whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then let them fast an equal number of days after Ramadan. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be grateful.

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:185)

Therefore, we can turn to Islam to find the answers we need when seeking to fill our homes with peace. Learn about some of the ingredients from the Quran and Sunnah that we need to create a peace-filled atmosphere in our homes.

Fruit Chaat - Tangy Pakistani Fruit Salads

Fruit Chaat is a special fruit salad many Pakistanis make on a daily basis during Ramadan. Aside from our Iftar staples of fried potato fritters, fritters in yogurt, and spicy chickpea salad, fruit chaat is another staple we cannot go without. The word chaat in Urdu means “to taste” or a “delicacy.” This sweet and tangy delicacy is one to fill you right up after a long fast!
