Climate Crisis: Raising a Vicegerent

By Tayaabah Qazi

Earth is our home and it is experiencing tremendous abuse through mankind’s greedy and irresponsible activities of the last few centuries. Deforestation, overuse of fossil oil (while alternate sources of energy are abundant), and destruction of the Earth’s atmosphere via harmful industrial chemicals. All of these are a few to mention which have brought the existence of life on Earth to a dangerous precipice. According to many, the climate crisis may have reached a point of no return. There is a tool in our toolbox that can be utilized now. We can plant the seeds of hope, love, and responsibility for our amazing and beautiful home, Earth, in the hearts of our children.

Signs Are Pointing to the Day of Judgment

By Laura El Alam

While we do not know exactly when it will take place, Muslims know the Day of Judgement is inevitable. On this day, Allah will resurrect every human who has ever lived, gather us together, and question us about our deeds. Considering how monumentally important this day will be, we should always keep it in the forefront of our minds. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, foretold some major and minor signs that will indicate that the Day of Judgement is near. If we look at our modern life, we can see that numerous minor signs are already apparent.

Islamic Guidance

When a man asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about the Hour, he responded:

"What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet said, "You will be with those whom you love."

Book Review: The Water Princess

By Laura El Alam

The Water Princess by Susan Verde is a picture book that will help us and our children see water from a new perspective and appreciate this incomparable gift from Allah. If we currently take water for granted or have trouble imagining a life without it, this book will be an eye-opener. The book is based on the real-life experience of model and international advocate Georgie Badiel, who grew up in Burkina Faso. As a child, Badiel fetched water with her grandmother, just as the story’s main character Gie Gie does. Reading this book is a wonderful way of seeing the challenges that individuals and nations face from the global water crises. And with that knowledge, inshaAllah, comes an increased attention to taking action.
