| | | Getting Closer to Allah By Mahasin D. Shamsid-Deen Allah, Ar-Rahman, created the human being and nurtures our existence through His Mercy. During the last few days of Ramadan when the prophet Muhammad (SAW) received those first words of revelation, Allah reveals His Grace, His Benevolence and the Blessings He bestows upon all of creation. We fast so we can learn Taqwa. When we truly have taqwa - that reverence of Allah that’s so sincere and so deep that the thought of doing something displeasing to him feels us with anxiety and fear – then we seek lailatul Qadr with sincerity and humility. |

| | | Beautiful Names in the Blessed Month: Al-Lateef, Al-Salaam By Miriam Mohamed As the blessed month of Ramadan draws to its close, believers often feel a mixture of gratitude, reflection, and longing. Ramadan is not only a time of fasting and worship, but a time of drawing nearer to Allah through His Beautiful Names. While throughout the month we turn to Him in repentance and hope, the final days invite us to reflect on the tranquility and subtle care that Allah has shown us. Two Names that come beautifully into focus at the end of Ramadan are As-Salaam—The Source of Peace, and Al-Lateef—The Most Gentle and Subtly Kind. These Names remind us that the journey of Ramadan was never meant to end with the month itself, but to leave our hearts in a state of peace and awareness of Allah’s gentle presence in every aspect of our lives. |

| | | I’tikaf for Mothers: Finding a Spiritual Retreat in the Last Ten Nights of Ramadan By Wendy Diaz A close friend once told me that her mother used to observe i’tikaf at home during the last ten nights of Ramadan, and I was intrigued. She described her routine in detail while I listened intently, taking mental notes. Her mother would prepare a designated space in her house, making sure she had everything she needed, like a prayer rug, a small reading nook with a Quran stand, water bottles, light snacks, and dates. By that time, her children were adolescents and could mostly take care of themselves. This devoted mother would meal-prep in advance, knowing exactly how many days she would be away in her intimate retreat with Allah. Once her home was in order and her family prepared, she would close herself in her room to focus on worship. It was something she looked forward to every year. It clearly left a lasting impression on her children, since my friend recalled this part of her mother’s Ramadan routine with admiration. |
