The Do's and Don'ts of Suhoor

By Candice Islaah Abd'al-Rahim

Before Muslims begin fasting each day, we are encouraged to eat a pre-fasting meal called suhoor. Ideally, eating suhoor lessens our hunger during the day, allowing us to have the focus and stamina needed to complete the fast successfully, inshaAllah, God willing. Because it is so significant, it is important to review the rules for observing suhoor in order to gain maximum benefit. Check out a delicious recipe for Powerhouse Oatmeal, too!

Moroccan Harira Soup

In writer Laura El Alam's home, harira soup is the fragrance of Ramadan. The savory, tomatoey broth with a hint of cinnamon always tempts their taste buds as it simmers on the stove. Although harira can be enjoyed any time of year, many Moroccan families make it during Ramadan. It’s a wonderful soup to break the fast and tastes especially delicious accompanied by dates. Check out the recipe and try it for yourself!
