Beating the Post-Ramadan Blues (and Preparing for Next Time)

By Wendy Díaz

Are you feeling sad and even guilty now that Ramadan is over? For busy mothers especially, earning the rewards of Ramadan can seem like an unachievable goal. We can feel remorse for the time I lost, the pages of Quran that didn’t get read, the taraweeh prayers that we did not attend, the iftar dinners that weren’t cooked, and the heartfelt tahajjud duas never made. These feelings are known as the “post-Ramadan blues.” Read the full article to find out five ways to beat them back (and also prepare for the next time).

 Parenting Tip

Take those good habits that we worked on during Ramadan and carry them into these next days, weeks, and months ahead. It starts with making a sincere intention and then making duaa to Allah for His assistance.

Build a Habit to Read the Quran Daily

By Sumayya Khan

Allah sent down the Quran to be a source of healing, mercy, purification for our sins, and a source of knowledge and wisdom. In times of distress, reciting it and reading its wise verses can help comfort us and guide us through our hardship. In times of happiness and ease, it is a reminder to thank Allah for the blessings He has given us. Let’s take the good habits we have attended to during Ramadan and keep up with reading and reciting the Quran regularly throughout the year. Here are six steps that can help.

Quranic Guidance

“And whosoever is conscious of Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He (Allah) will make a way for him to get out (from) every (difficulty), and He will provide him from (sources) he could never imagine.”

(Surah At-Talaq, 65:2-3)

Cultivating the Forgiveness Habit

By Samana Siddiqui

Forgiveness is often a one-time, one-issue experience for most of us. Someone harms us, they may or may not ask us for forgiveness, and we offer it. Many of us do it for the sake of Allah, remembering that, as Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, once said, “All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent” (Ibn Majah). Or we may do it because forgiveness benefits us psychologically and physically.

Forgiveness is a habit we engage in in a systematic, regular manner. Find out how to gain its spiritual, psychological, and health benefits in the full article.

Inspiration

“A word of advice to anyone who wants to change the world: Your family’s right upon you is greater than all other 7 billion-member of the world population combined. The admiration of a million people pales in comparison to the smile you put on the face of a parent, spouse, or child, and testify for or against you on the day of judgment. If you want them to remember you tomorrow, you have to be there for them today, so change the world and do your best to care for everyone, but don’t let your positive influence exclude the people who need you most.”

Shaikh Omar Suleiman

The Way to Success: Lessons from Surah Muminoon

By Umm Ahmed

Success for most of us, is commonly attributed to worldly achievements or desires like attaining a higher level qualification, getting the job of your dreams, sharing time with family, etc. For Muslims, the prescription can be found in  Surah Mu'minoon which was revealed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to remind his Ummah or followers (those who believe in Allah and worship Him alone) of what true success is. It is imperative for parents to understand the true meaning of success in the light of the Quran first, in order to be able to translate it onto the future generations. Emulating the Character of Prophet Muhammad

By Miriam Mohamed

Now that Eid and its celebrations have come and gone, it is time to reflect on how to continue the good habits and acts of worship throughout the year. One way to preserve motivation and reach this goal is to emulate the character of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and connect it to new habits. And we found a wonderful resource in a beautiful new book by Abdur Raheem Kidawai’s called Blessed Names and Characteristics of Prophet Muhammad. Read the full review here.
