Salam & Peace

There is finally some good news from Sri Lanka. The government issued an official gazette on Feb 25th to stop the forced cremation of Muslims. Sri Lanka Task Force of Justice For All while welcomes the news, cautions the world since Sri Lanka has a long record of violating the rights of non-Buddhists.

Forty-nine American and Canadian Muslim organizations, along with Pakistani Americans, signed on the Justice For All letter to Pakistan’s prime minister to ask Sri Lanka to stop forced cremation during his trip. The letter was delivered directly to Prime Minister Imran Khan before his trip, and an earlier memo was delivered to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister.

Working with the American & British Buddhists

Justice For All is closely working with American Buddhists-led teams who have been concerned with the state of Human Rights in Sri Lanka. A team is consistently working in Geneva, Switzerland, to ensure that the United Nations Human Rights Council passes the resolution on Sri Lanka to abide by its promises on human rights.

Sri Lanka Facing the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

The United Nations Human Rights Council will debate the recent report produced by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at the upcoming session in March. It reports Sri Lanka's deteriorating human rights situation that risks the recurrence of the grave violations of the past, in which an almost genocide of Tamils took place.

Deadly Alliances Against Muslims

New York Times published an editorial on October 15, 2014, warning against the deadly alliance of Sri Lankan extremists, Burmese extremists, and Indian extremists against Muslims.

Please read that editorial here.

Unfortunately all these extremist groups are now in power in Sri Lanka, Burma, and India.

Burma has already committed genocide while India has become a country with two genocide alerts. We must save Sri Lanka from going on this route.

All of this makes the human rights work of Justice For All very critical. Justice For All is the premier human rights organization of Muslims in America.

Justice For All has been working on the cause of Sri Lankan Muslims since 2014. Please strengthen this work by donating and volunteering.

Burmese military and police have escalated their violence against peaceful anti-coup protesters. The military is violating basic rights to peaceful, public assembly, arresting journalists and medics. This must stop. The world is watching.

The Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ), run by George Clooney and his lawyer wife Amal Clooney, has announced it will monitor the trial of Kashmiri journalist Aasif Sultan, who has been in detention for more than two years on terror charges.

Sultan, who has received the John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award from the American National Press Club in 2019, featured in TIME magazine’s 10 ‘Most Urgent’ cases of threats to press freedom around the world last year. Justice For All has filed a report on behalf of his family with the United State Commission On Religious Freedom.

“We have no orders to save you”: Gujarat Massacre in March 2002

India has a history of mass attacks on Muslims. But it was the Gujarat massacre in March 2002 when Justice For All started raising its voice against the massacre by launching our action alerts on Gujarat to educate Muslims and our neighbors in North America and to request our elected leaders to make serious efforts to stop it.

Several thousand Muslims were murdered although the government which was implicated in attacks on Muslims says only a 1,000 died.

An estimated 150,000 people lost their homes. 504 places of worship were destroyed by the Hindu mob. Police refused to save Muslims stating that “We have no orders to save you.”

Modi, the current prime minister of India, was the chief minister of Gujarat at that time. It was because of his role in the massacre that he was banned from entering the United States for ten years thanks to American Muslims and their allies campaigning to use US laws against him.

However, the RSS— Indian fascists — then elevated its member Modi into a national hero and brought him to rule India. An honest Indian police officer, Sanjiv Bhatt, testified that Modi ordered police to allow Hindus to attack Muslims. Modi and RSS took revenge by first suspending him from the service, then expelling him, charging him with a 30 year old case, demolishing his home and finally banishing him to jail.

Things are bad in Modi’s India. Join the struggle for human rights for indian Muslims.
