Learning about Allah through His Creation

By Zahirah Lynn Eppard

Children are naturally curious about the world they live in. Conscious effort must be taken to help our children connect with Allah – to get to know Him, to respect Him, and to heed the guidance that He so mercifully provides. And the earlier that starts the better.

The best way for parents to inculcate this type of connection to the practice of our religion is to provide age-appropriate training from those who have knowledge and to also make use of “teachable moments.” Here are five awe inspiring examples to share.

 Parenting Tip

Teach your children about Allah by looking at the awesome nature of His Creation. Finding “teachable moments” will come naturally and by extension demonstrate the even more awesome nature of the Creator Himself!

1. Involve them.
As much as you can, try to get your child involved in the process of choosing their favorite fruits and vegetables (for a start). Get them to help with the cutting, chopping, and peeling. You would be surprised how much they will enjoy it, boys and girls alike! And finally, let them determine how they are served.
